The Veggie Diaries: Green Smoothie
Though it is friday and I usually upload a fashion related post, today I thought I'd share with you guys something a little different.
As you may or may not know, about two months ago I went completely Vegan, and it's been a lot harder then I thought it would be. After the first month I found myself eating a lot of gluten free pasta and a lot of tofu, and nothing else really. Confiding this in my doctor, she told me I needed to eat a lot more veggies and to lay off the tofu so much since it's hard to digest. Trying to find ways to eat veggies without having just a salad has proven to be a lot harder then I thought it would be, but one way that I have found is to have it in a smoothie.
Green smoothies have always been my favourite kind of smoothie for a long time anyways, but more recently I've found that I haven't been drinking them often at all. I set out to have a green smoothie today and I thought I would share with you my favourite recipe. :)
Going in order clockwise, I have some hemp hearts (for protein), a slightly over ripe banana, a green apple, an avocado, some cucumber and spinach. Now I'm not one for measuring out my ingredients to exact ratios, I kind of just throw things into and just let the blender take it's course. If I taste it and think it needs more of something then I'll just add more. It's probably why I always end up making to much... :P
Then as my liquid base I just use coconut water. I then just throw everything together into my blender and blend the whole thing up.
And that's it! I like to pop my smoothies into big plastic cups that have straws like my one from Starbucks because I find that they're the best size and that you should always drink a smoothie with a straw. (am I right or am I right?)
This smoothie is actually the tea, and I think I'm going to be drinking more and more green smoothies now. Do you guys have any favourite green smoothies?
xoxo,
